Raja Festival In Pattamundai,Odisha 2013
Raja is an agriculture oriented festival, mostly observed in the coastal districts of Orissa for three days. The last day of month “Jestha” is known as “Pahili Raja” and the first day of month “Asadha” is Raja Sankranti (Mithuna Sankranti) from which rainy season starts. It also inaugurates the agricultural year all over Orissa which marks the moistening of summer parched soil with the first shower of monsoon making it ready for productivity. The second day of “Asadha” is known as “Bhuin Dahana”.
During the three days women are given a break from household work and time to play indoor games. Unmarried girls decorate themselves with new fashion or traditional Saree and Alatha in feet. All people abstain from walking barefoot on earth. People play a lot of indoor and outdoor games. Girls play swings tied on tree branches whereas aged ladies play Cards and Ludo. Many villages organise Kabbadi matches among young men.
Special varieties of cake prepared out of recipes like rice-powder, molasses, coconut, camphor, ghee etc goes in the name of Poda-pitha (burnt-cake ). The size of the cake varies according to the number of family members. Cakes are also exchanged among relatives and friends.
According to popular belief as women menstruate, which is a sing of fertility, so also Mother Earth menstruates. So all three days of the festival are considered to be the menstruating period of Mother Earth. During the festival all agricultural operations remain suspended. As in Hindu homes menstruating women remain secluded because of impurity and do not even touch anything and are given full rest, so also the Mother Earth is given full rest for three days for which all agricultural operations are stopped.
Significantly, it is a festival of the unmarried girls, the potential mothers. They all observe the restrictions prescribed for a menstruating woman. The very first day, they rise before dawn, do their hair, anoint their bodies with turmeric paste and oil and then take the purificatory bath in a river or tank.
Peculiarly, bathing for the rest two days is prohibited. They don’t walk bare-foot do not scratch the earth, do not grind, do not tear anything apart, do not cut and do not cook. During all the three consecutive days they are seen in the best of dresses and decorations, eating cakes and rich food at the houses of friends and relatives, spending long cheery hours, moving up and down on improvised swings, rending the village sky with their merry impromptu songs. The Raja gita (a folk song) sung by the people is:

Asichi Raja lo gheni nua sajabaja.”

Celebration of raja is one of the oldest tradition of Orissa. Slowly, the festival is loosing its importance in young minds. We should try to celebrate this festival so that the young generation will learn importance of the occasion.

Odisha Plus Two Online Admission From May 27
The application forms for Plus Two would be available online from MAY 27. Forms for Plus Two admissions will be available online on www.dheorissa.in from monday.
The department of higher education (DHE) has standardised the e-admission for all junior colleges with an online common application form. The instructions for filling up the e-forms will be provided on the website under the label “common prospectus”.
The prospectus will contain general guidelines, selection principles, reservation and weightage details in the first part and be available in the 410 Students’ Academic Management System (Sams) centres. Each of the 30 districts will have one nodal centre.
The second half, featuring the details of individual colleges such as seat matrix and subject availability, will be available only on the DHE website. Candidates can log on to www.dheorissa.in and click on the “apply online (Common Application Form)” .

Hrithik Roshan and salman khan bury the past
Remember the famous war of words between Salman Khan and Hrithik Roshan when Guzaarish got released? Salman had said that even dogs can't watch a film like Guzaarish. To which Hrithik had replied that it's not heroic to laugh or make fun of a filmmaker. But now it seems that both the actors have decided to bury the past and start afresh.
Recently, Hrithik Roshan paid a special visit at Salman Khan's lifestyle store. Not only this, he became the first actor to shop something from the store. Talking about this a source told a leading daily that Hrithik Roshan went over to the Being Human store in Bandra a few days ago.
The source further added, "He is the first big star to have gone there. He even stayed at the store for some time. Hrithik looked around and was happy with all that was on offer. He really liked the initiative."

“I am delighted that Anubhav Mohanty, our famous film star, has joined the Biju Janata Dal Today. This will give us a tremendous boost in the State particularly amongst the young people of Odisha”, Naveen said.

Superstar Amitabh Bachchan will reportedly be playing himself in Anurag Kashyap's short story inBombay Talkies.
A bouquet of four short stories, Bombay Talkies has contributions by four directors -- Kashyap, Karan Johar, Zoya Akhtar and Dibakar Banerjee. An ode to 100 years of cinema, the film is up for a May 3 release.
The 70-year-old plays a cameo in Kashyap's film and as part of the role, he will meet an ardent fan who comes to visit him from his home town Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh.
It is also said that Kashyap's short story will have a special song dedicated to the veteran actor. It will be released Sunday outside Big B's residence Prateeksha in Juhu, said a statement.
"Bachchan will play a cameo in the film. There is a surprise in store for him where a flash mob of 60 Bachchans (artistes dressed and masked like Bachchan) will launch the song in front of his home. Big B has a tradition of having fans gathering outside his house on Sunday evenings in the hope of catching a glimpse of the veteran," said a source. IANS
