Aamir Khan strikes gold with 'Dhoom 3', makes Rs200 crore in just 4 days

Touted as the year’s biggest release- ‘Dhoom 3’- has lived up to people’s expectations. With Aamir Khan essaying the central character in the multi-starrer, the film was bound to hit the jackpot and has already minted over Rs 200 crores in just 4 days!

And Mr Perfectionist of the Tinsel Town, who believes in doing not more than one film a year, has struck gold with the film which happens to be the third franchise of the ‘Dhoom’ series.

A noted trade pandit is of the opinion that the film has the potential to break all the previous Box Office records and may soon clinch the leading spot.

A non-holiday release, ‘Dhoom 3’, which has Aamir essaying the antagonist for the first time has broken the Box Office record set by Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Chennai Express’. The film has vroomed away and joined ‘Chennai Express’ and ‘Krrish 3’ in the esteemed Rs 200 crore club.

‘Dhoom 3’ saw Aamir romance Katrina Kaif for the first time. The duo set the silver screen ablaze with their sizzling hot chemistry. Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra, who play Jai and Ali respectively, have been integral parts of the ‘Dhoom’ series.

With five releases in 2013, Sonakshi Sinha on a mission to set a new record?

Sonakshi Sinha is the B-Town actress with maximum film releases in 2013. The 26-year-old, who debuted in 2010, has done more films — 12 — than actresses who entered Bollywood before her.
She has acquired the reputation of being one of the workaholics, like Akshay Kumar, with whom she has done three films (and three cameo songs). The 12 films include a special appearance in Oh My God! in 2012, and three item songs (two in Boss and one in Himmatwala).
Next year she will have three releases with Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn and Arjun Kapoor. Does she plan to go on a signing spree and chalk up most releases again next year? She laughs, “Signing spree? No! I just feel most comfortable when I am working. It’s been a good year for me because I got to do good films. I also did three of my best roles in my career — LooteraR…Rajkumar and Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobara. I also worked with new actors like Ranbir Kapoor, Imran Khan and Shahid Kapoor.”
The actress disagrees with the fact that she’s signing too many films and becoming the female equivalent of Akshay, who has maximum number of releases every year. “Though I take it as a huge compliment to be compared to Akshay, as he is one of the most hard working stars I know, I must add that I always sign a film instinctively and only if I feel very strongly about it. I don’t sign a film just for the sake of it. Just because people feel I am taking on too much work I can’t stop saying no to good roles or films, no?”
Sonakshi adds that she gets bored and restless when she is not working. “This is the only way I know to work — by being superbusy! When I have a free day, I don’t know what to do with myself. I would rather just be working.”
Before
Anushka Sharma who made her debut two years before Sonakshi (2008) has done seven films so far — Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, Badmaash Company, Band Baaja Baaraat, Patiala House, Ladies vs Ricky Bahl, Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola.
After
Parineeti Chopra who made her debut a year after Sona (2011) has three releases — Ladies vs Ricky Bahl, Ishaqzaadeand Shuddh Desi Romance.
Same year
Shraddha Kapoor made her debut at the same time as the Dabangg girl (Teen Patti in 2010) and after that has acted in three films — Luv Ka The End, Aashiqui 2 and Gori Tere Pyaar Mein.

JEE Main 2014 online candidates to receive question papers post examination

Candidates who take the Joint Entrance Examination Main 2014 (JEE Main 2014) through the online mode will receive their question papers marked with answers through mail after the examination gets over, as per the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Such candidates can access sheets for calculations and rough work as well.

Previously, candidates who appeared for the offline paper based JEE Main examination only were allowed to retain their question papers. The online examinations being computer based did not offer the same privilege to the students.

CBSE has also provided candidates aspiring to write the JEE Main 2014 on the online mode the opportunity to practice by making online mock tests available to them. The candidates can avail these tests free of cost at the website of CBSE - www.cbse.gov.in. The measure is part of CBSE’s initiative of promoting the online version of the test to students. CBSE has taken this initiative to ensure that the candidates, especially women, are not inconvenienced in terms of travelling long distances, accommodation as well as safety.

JEE Main is an entrance examination for admissions to the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) as well as other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs). Moreover, it is an eligibility test for the JEE Advanced, which is the common entrance examination for admission into the undergraduate (UG) programs of the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and Indian School of Mines-Dhanbad (ISM-Dhanbad).

CBSE has issued a 28-point document consisting of frequently asked questions (FAQs) to clear all doubts of the candidates. Candidates can visit http://jeemain.nic.in/jeemainapp/pdf/FAQ_jee_main_2014.pdf for the detailed document.

Hyderabad most googled city in India this year

Mana city emerged the hot favourite among Indian netizens this year as it turned out to be the most 'searched for' city on search engine giant Google in 2013, beating other metros like Mumbai and Bangalore. Events that made Hyderabad the most sought after city in the virtual world were the Dilsukhnagar twin blasts in February that killed 17 people and injured more than 100, the Telangana crisis, which reached its peak during July, August and then again in September, the IPL matches held in the city, the questioning of terrorist Yasin Bhatkal by theHyderabad police and the Volvo bus tragedy in October that killed 45 people.

These details were revealed by Google India's Year End Zeitgeist report, which laid out the hottest trends, people, places and events that captured the world's attention in 2013.

"Hyderabad has been in the national news for a while now, with the bifurcation issue no more restricted to only the state. People from other cities are also curious about Osmania University(OU) and other educational institutes of Hyderabad," said educationist G Haragopal.

Meanwhile, Tollywood stars such as Mahesh Babu, Kaajal Agarwal and Samantha were the most searched for local personalities on the internet.

Interestingly, politician Akbaruddin Owaisi was the only non-film personality to figure on that list.

Owaisi's virtual popularity peaked when he was admitted to hospital early this year and then again in August when he along with his brotherAsaduddin Owaisi announced expansion plans for their party, Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM), and the possibility of contesting elections in other states as well.

Not so surprisingly, the MIM chief's hate speech delivered in 2012 saw the maximum number of hits in any news relating to the politician right through the year. OU, the hotbed of the Telangana agitation, was the most looked up educational institution in the city, followed by JNTU, Andhra University and Kakatiya University. Not really searched for its academic courses, hits for OU were the maximum during the clashes between the university students and the police on the Telangana issue.

The place that was enquired about the most in Hyderabad was the Big Cinemas multiplex, which was in the news in May after it was announced that the chain of theatres will be thrown open to retail clothes stores.

Ramoji Film City became a popular search topic in November when it entered into a pact with IRCTC to promote tourism in the state.

"It is the composite cultural environment of the city that draws people to find out more about Hyderabad as and when events occur here," Haragopal added.

Govt to ease norms for African students

India's foreign policy focus on Africa is soon going to reflect in its educational policy also. HRD ministry while reworking its initiative for foreign students has decided that students from Africa should get special attention in Indian educational institutions, both in government and private.

HRD sources said India has become an attractive educational destination not only for African students who come on government scholarship but even those who can pay for their study. "We want them to attend good institutions," a source said. HRD has also decided to put in place a new mechanism that will ensure that after students are allotted a university they should go to good colleges. On the lines of many US universities, the ministry also wants Indian universities to conduct remedial courses for African students. Earlier this month, a senior ministry official received a lot of complaints from African students about the lack of infrastructural facilities as also about their problems in various colleges of Pune that offer courses in Marathi language. These students mostly on scholarship offered by the Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR) and Indian Technical Education Cooperation said they are facing problems from Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO).

As part of its comprehensive programme to attract foreign students and make their stay in India comfortable, HRD secretary Ashok Thakur has mooted a new scheme to make international hostel and foreign student office in 15-20 universities. "Foreign Student Office should be one stop institution that should take care of all the needs of foreign students so that they do not have to run around for various clearances," ministry official said.

The ministry has convened a meeting of UGC, ICCR, ministry of external affairs (MEA) to look into the issues relating to welfare of foreign students. A seminar has been organized in Pune that has a large number of foreign students and vice-chancellors and deans of universities having sizeable foreign students to emphasize upon them the need for welfare of foreign students studying in India.
